The Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE) leads Apt and manages projects across Scotland, together with our training and delivery partners and the SUSE Experience Network.
We work directly with Scottish Government, Local Authorities and Local Employability Partnerships to fund training and services for employers.
Apt was developed to encourage employers to adapt to diversity and adapt to close the Disability Employment Gap. Often it’s small changes that make a huge difference.
Our approach is inclusive, supportive and collaborative.
We give employers the confidence to hire disabled people and build their capacity to retain, support and develop the disabled people they employ.
Our aim is ensuring that our services achieve real, sustainable and significant improvements in workplaces.
Our solutions start at the very beginning of the hiring process and support employers throughout. Ensuring that you’re connecting with disabled people in the places that they are searching for jobs, that the hiring process is inclusive and accessible for applicants and that once in the role, they are adequately supported, and employers and your new employees are set up for success.
Why should you get involved?
The benefits of being an inclusive employer are clear. Diverse teams enhance innovation and problem-solving, attract top talent and drive business success. A commitment to inclusivity boosts employee satisfaction, productivity and reputation.
The SUSE Experience Network is our advisory and project delivery group, each with experience of being a disabled person in employment. They work with us to develop projects, deliver training and help employers like you to become more inclusive.
Our expert consortium also includes training partners who bring knowledge in specialist areas, such as neurodiversity, digital accessibility, legal responsibilities, reasonable adjustments etc. All focused on a workplace context.

Our experience of working with employers and the research we have carried out has highlighted the scope for improvement if we can help employers to change their approach. It’s highlighted the need to engage and support, for having the challenging conversations, and for using this as an opportunity to dispel harmful myths about disabled people in the workforce.
We are taking a thoughtful, considered, and expert approach to inclusivity.
We are positive that the work we’re undertaking will change the landscape in Scotland, bringing permanent change to business cultures, attitudes, and approaches. Changes that will significantly support the Scottish Government’s ambition of halving the Disability Employment Gap.
